August 2026 mobile game rankings: Subway Surfers rebounds, Gossip Harbor takes second

Roblox leads downloads and Honor of Kings leads revenue. Behind them, a regional launch, recurring events and uneven country results explain more than the headline ranks.

August in focus

Subway Surfers added 4.73 million estimated downloads from July and reached No. 2, while Gangstar Mirage City entered at No. 8 during its regional launch month. On the revenue chart, Gossip Harbor placed second at $112.45 million. Its clearest growth signal comes from countries where spending rose even as downloads fell.

The August global charts

These are sampled chart totals, not market totals. The combined charts include only the stores present for each title. July global revenue for Gossip Harbor and MONOPOLY GO! contains App Store only, while August includes Google Play too. Their global growth rates and the Top 10 revenue growth rate are therefore omitted.

Values are estimates, shown in full to preserve comparability. A missing prior-month base means the title was absent from the comparable global sample, not that it launched in August. Temporary store names are shortened for readability.

Subway Surfers recovers across several markets

At 18.86 million downloads, Subway Surfers rose 33.5% from July and moved from sixth to second. Its App Store history places Fantasy Fest on August 3 and Cosmic Crossroads, with the returning Among Us collaboration, on August 24. The first update covered most of the month; the latter was a late-month addition and cannot explain the full increase.

Downloads rose 46.9% in Brazil, 44.4% in Germany and 32.3% in France. Tracked app-level ad activity was nearly flat at 15,449, up 0.6%. That combination is consistent with renewed interest around the content calendar, but does not establish how many installs came from events, organic discovery or paid acquisition.

The puzzle chart was less uniform. Block Blast! rose 15.1% globally to 18.07 million downloads, yet its UK downloads increased 62.4% while Türkiye fell 36.5%. Arrow Puzzle dropped 18.5% globally. Amaze GO! entered the global download sample at No. 9 with 11.13 million. A strong result for one puzzle title was no guarantee of growth for its competitors, or even across its own markets.

Gangstar enters with a regional launch

Gangstar Mirage City recorded 11.69 million downloads in the supplied global chart, which covers Google Play for this title. Level Infinite announced an August 20 soft launch across Southeast Asia, South Asia, parts of Europe, MENA and Latin America, on both iOS and Android. The chart value should therefore not be read as its complete launch total across both stores.

    Publisher launch recap

The launch announcement reported 30 million pre-registrations and a creator program. Together with the official crew-invitation rewards, that gives the No. 8 entry a clear acquisition context: interest had been gathered before release, then players had a reason to arrive together. Pre-registrations are not installs, and this month cannot establish retention after the launch window.

Gossip Harbor earns more with fewer new downloads

Gossip Harbor moved from ninth to second in the supplied revenue tables, although the change in store coverage makes that rank jump an imperfect comparison. In the US, where both months cover both stores, revenue grew 15.6% to $42.29 million while downloads fell 23.5% to 893,223. Germany and France show the same split.

Microfun continued weekly chapters. The August 12 App Store release describes a dragon-rescue event; the August 26 release adds a raccoon-themed adventure. These updates offer reasons for existing players to return. They coincide with stronger spending in the comparable markets, but do not isolate an event effect or establish higher revenue per user.

MONOPOLY GO! illustrates why that country check matters. It appears fifth globally at $88.38 million, but US revenue fell 5.6% and UK revenue fell 14.6%. Its larger global total than July partly reflects the addition of Google Play coverage. Gossip Harbor has regional growth behind its August position; MONOPOLY GO! does not show that same pattern in these markets.

Pokémon GO settles below its July event peak

Pokémon GO left the global revenue Top 10 after placing second in July. In the US, estimated revenue fell from $50.87 million to $22.73 million, down 55.3%; Germany declined 57.3% and the UK 51.7%. The official calendar puts the tenth-anniversary GO Fest Global on July 11 and 12, including Mega Mewtwo raids and an optional paid GO Pass upgrade. That makes July an unusually event-heavy comparison month.

August still had paid content. Water Festival ran from August 18 to 24 with new Pokémon and an optional GO Pass Deluxe. The monthly decline is consistent with spending easing after the July celebration; it does not mean August lacked live operations or that the Water Festival failed. The available estimates cannot separate a lower event peak from changes in player spending frequency.

A new eFootball season did not reverse the monthly decline

eFootball downloads fell 16.1% globally to 11.00 million, taking the game from eighth to tenth. KONAMI launched its major season update on August 13, with Custom Tournament and new tactical options; the New Season Campaign ran through September 3. Those additions overlapped the second half of August, yet the full-month result remained below July.

Japan recorded the sharpest decline among the five comparable markets shown here: downloads fell 42.5% and revenue fell 33.1%. Indonesia fell much less on both measures. The update may have affected activity within the month, but monthly totals cannot show whether it softened an earlier decline. September will offer a longer view of the new season.

August rewards a closer look at each title. A regional release can enter the global download chart with only one store represented; recurring content can accompany spending growth without more downloads; a major update can coexist with a monthly decline. Compare the same stores and markets before treating a rank movement as a growth result.

Data notes and sources

Source: SocialPeta supplied August 2026 combined-store ranking estimates, compared with July 2026. The sample contains global and 16 country charts, each with 10 download and 10 revenue rows. These are mobile-store estimates, not publisher-reported total revenue; web-store sales and advertising revenue are not established by these files. Russian revenue rows are zero-filled and excluded from interpretation.

Tracked ads measure app-level observed advertising activity, not spend, impressions or country budgets. The same count can repeat across countries and must not be added across them. Global ad-count growth for Gossip Harbor and MONOPOLY GO! is also omitted because their store coverage changed. Dates on source pages refer to the event or release specified, not necessarily the publication date.
